Hackathon for Social Good – ISITE Design Join web and mobile experts on Tues., May 15th in an all day Hackathon for Social Good. Hackathons are events when programmers and designers meet to work collaboratively to build programs and applications. Location: ISITE Design 2030 NW Pettygrove Street Portland, OR 97209 SCHEDULE: 09:00am - Coffee and Sign in 09:30am - Opening message; review the day's process 09:45am - Brief presentations from non-profit groups: My Way Home Dog Rescue: http://mywayhomedogrescue.org/ An organization created by a group of people who are committed to improving the quality of dogs’ lives. Their goal is to make a difference by pulling dogs from over-crowded shelters, fostering them in volunteers' homes, and finding them great forever homes. Nursing Mother's Counsel: http://www.nursingmotherscounsel.org/ NMC is dedicated to the support, promotion and protection of breastfeeding, and they provide free prenatal breastfeeding education classes, including teen parent classes, free peer counseling phone support, and low-cost breast pump rentals and lactation consultant visits for low income breastfeeding mothers. p:ear http://www.pearmentors.org p:ear creatively mentors homeless and transitional youth. Through education, art and recreation programs, p;ear builds positive relationships with each young person to affirm personal worth and to create more meaningful and healthier lives. 10:00am - Brainstorm ideas for web and/or mobile tools or apps; Divide into groups to develop projects. 10:15am - Break 10:30am - Develop design, programming and production plan and assignments; begin design and development. 12:15pm - Lunch break 01:15pm - Project development 04:15pm - Finalization and testing 05:00pm - Present projects to judges 5:20pm - Hackathon winner announced If you have a great coding and design mindset, put your talents to the task and help create tools to solve local community needs. Teams will compete to deliver the most compelling and appealing solutions, and the winning team members will win a free day pass to WebVisions, where the Hackathon winners will be announced on the Main Stage. |
